Yeongdo Lighthouse is a photo spot where you can capture the cliffs at the edge of Taejongdae together with the sea.
Rather than focusing only on the lighthouse, include the nearby observatory, coastline, and distant islands to bring out the atmosphere of the place.
The view toward the sea opens up especially wide here, making it a popular choice when you are looking for a distinctly Busan coastal scene.
Light comes in from the open sea, so on clear days the direction of the morning and late-afternoon light comes through well in your photos. When the sun is lower, the texture of the cliff, the railings, and the outer wall of Yeongdo Lighthouse gain a sense of depth, keeping the landscape from looking flat. In the middle of the day, strong reflections from the sea can increase contrast, so when photographing the lighthouse with a person, try aiming for a time when side light reaches the scene.
Try changing your height as you walk down the steps beside the lookout; this naturally clarifies the distance between the lighthouse and the sea. Rather than photographing only the lighthouse head-on, include the railing, steps, and cliff line in the foreground to lead the eye toward the water. From a lookout a little farther away, layer the lighthouse with the coastal cliff and the island in the distance. When it is busy, shooting from one step higher and looking down makes it easier to keep the surroundings tidy than working from a low angle.
