Mipo is a coastal photo spot at the edge of Haeundae, where the sea, an old railway line, and Blue Line Park overlap in a single frame.
Photographers come for the open view toward the water and the chance to include elements such as trains, walking paths, and breakwaters together.
Although the tourist atmosphere is distinct, moving just a little lets you photograph urban scenes and seascapes separately.
Mipo opens toward the East Sea, so the light around sunrise works especially well. In the early morning, the low-angle light coming from the horizon clearly brings out the surface of the sea and the promenade railings. Around sunset, it suits the scene better to create atmosphere with side light and a backlit feel rather than a direct sunset. Even on cloudy days, the sea colors and structures settle into a calm arrangement, making it good for documentary-style shots.
Go down toward the breakwater or coastal promenade to give the sea plenty of space while including the Blue Line Park facilities or train route. Rather than shooting only straight on, place the railing or lines of the path in the foreground so they lead the eye naturally toward the sea. From a slightly higher position, you can frame the buildings around Mipo together with the coastline, while a lower position emphasizes the waves and the texture of the breakwater. When it is crowded, crop into part of the scene with a telephoto lens for a much cleaner frame.
