Tamron Co., Ltd. will expand its lineup of ultra-high magnification zoom lenses for APS-C mirrorless cameras by adding Nikon Z mount and Canon RF mount versions of the "18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD (Model B061)," to be released on August 28 and September 26, 2025, respectively. The suggested retail price is 104,500 yen for Nikon Z and 106,700 yen for Canon RF (both tax included).
Originally launched in 2021 for Sony E mount and Fujifilm X mount, this lens gained attention as the world's first 16.6x zoom lens (at the time). It covers wide-angle to ultra-telephoto ranges in a single lens, significantly broadening the scope of photography and earning high praise as a multifunctional zoom lens.
Combining a Wide Focal Range with Portability
The 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 achieves a focal length equivalent to 27-450mm for Nikon Z mount and 28.8-480mm for Canon RF mount in 35mm format. It eliminates the need for frequent lens changes, making it suitable for a variety of genres, including landscapes, portraits, bird photography, sports, and snapshots. In the ultra-telephoto range, it excels in capturing distant subjects, such as at children's sports events, offering exceptional versatility.
Additionally, the lens is lightweight, weighing 635g for Nikon Z and 625g for Canon RF, making it ideal for travel, hiking, and other scenarios requiring mobility.
Class-Leading Autofocus Performance and Image Stabilization
The autofocus system employs Tamron's proprietary linear motor focus mechanism, "VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive)," which delivers fast, precise, and quiet performance, excelling in tracking moving subjects. Additionally, the lens features a "VC (Vibration Compensation)" image stabilization mechanism, which is particularly effective for telephoto and night photography. The Canon RF version also includes a dedicated VC ON/OFF switch and an AF/MF toggle switch, enhancing operational convenience.
A Lens That Excels in Macro Photography
The minimum focusing distance is just 0.15m at the wide end, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2, enabling half-macro photography. Even at the telephoto end, it achieves a 0.99m minimum focusing distance with a 1:4 quarter-macro ratio. This allows for close-up shots of flowers, food, and other subjects, creating expressive photos with beautiful bokeh, capturing those "moments you want to photograph" in everyday life.
Enhanced Usability with Design and Firmware Updates
Both mounts share a common filter diameter of φ67mm and feature a circular aperture, contributing to beautiful bokeh effects. Furthermore, the Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts are compatible with the "TAMRON Lens Utility," enabling firmware updates and setting adjustments via USB. This ensures peace of mind for long-term use, keeping the lens up to date.
