Canon has long held a strong presence in the film industry, with its excellence in this domain being prominent. The EF mount DSLRs and RF mount mirrorless cameras have been widely supported by both amateur and professional filmmakers. For example, the EOS R5C has been highly regarded as an attractive option bridging the gap between the photo-oriented EOS R and dedicated cinema cameras.

The RF mount inherits the large aperture characteristics of the EF mount while allowing for the development of more compact and high-performance cameras and lenses due to its shorter back focus distance.

Canon's Next Move

Canon's main competitor in video shooting has long been Sony, but with Nikon's association with RED, the competition is expected to intensify. However, there seems to be no official announcement from Canon regarding this matter.

Canon plans to continue offering a diverse range of optical lenses and combining its in-house sensors and video engines to provide high-quality, reliable cameras. By collaborating with hardware and software manufacturers, Canon aims to develop products that cater to various scenes.
