‘window’

A window is both a boundary separating inside and outside, and simultaneously a frame that opens onto the world.
It brings in light, frames the landscape, and at times even reflects the presence or warmth of someone’s life.

The contours through frosted glass, patterns formed by raindrops, reflections at dusk, shadows floating in a nighttime room—there are moments when a story quietly emerges beyond a single window.

This image seems to capture even the scent of greenery beyond the window frame. The gentle diffusion through the glass softly envelops the parent and child, while the small hand pointing outside evokes a sense of what’s to come. The accumulation of seasons, visible even in the rusted frame and stains, quietly emerges from this window—an impression that lingers in this evocative work.

A large window frames the evening scene, rendering the people inside as silhouettes. The golden hue beyond the glass contrasts with the deep shadows on this side, leaving a lingering sense that, though sharing the same space, each person is living in their own time. Even the elongated shadows narrate the shape of “light streaming through the window,” drawing the viewer in with quiet intensity.

The uniforms lined up inside the window create a miniature gallery that immediately draws the eye. The rhythm of the numbers 5, 6, 7, 8 and the arrangement of colors are pleasing, and while the exterior wall is tranquil, there is a palpable energy within. The “passion” inside the room gently seeps out into the city through the window frame—a work that lightly captures that moment.

Through a rain-streaked window, the outlines of the city appear to slowly dissolve. Amid the blurred scenery, only the red of the traffic light remains as a vivid point of light, reminding us that a window is not only “for looking out,” but also serves as a membrane that receives presence. Capturing even the weight of the weather, this work brings a quiet sense of calm.

The light streaming in at the window seems to embody the tranquility of the interior. The lattice shadows fall on the wall, and the green and brick tones from outside bring in the “weather of the day.” The slightly open window creates a path for the breeze, and more than just the visible scene, the work invites us to imagine even the temperature of the air.

The stained glass window transforms light itself into pigment in this image. Fragments of red, blue, yellow, and green fall onto the wall, making the “scene created by the window” the true protagonist, even more than the view outside. The open pane lets in a breeze and subtly distorts the shape of the shadows—a pleasing detail. The vibrant window invites us to imagine how its expression changes with the time of day.

The window’s lattice creates a sense of distance between “this side” and “the other side,” while the orange glow gently dissolves that boundary. The figure seen through the frosted glass, whose expression is unreadable, sparks the imagination—like a scene from a short film. The contrast between the darkness outside and the warmth inside quietly lingers in the heart.

The large window welcomes the setting sun directly—an impressive sight. The light through the glass is dazzling, yet curiously gentle, serving as a guide leading deep into the corridor. The convergence of the window’s vertical lines and the handrail focuses the gaze, and the figure standing there conveys the scale of this moment. Even the back walking into the light is beautiful in this window scene.

Despite the many windows in the room, a hushed stillness pervades this image. The swaying trees seen through the glass and the dappled sunlight on the floor remind us that time is indeed passing. Including the textures of the crumbling walls and peeling ceiling, the window becomes not just “a hole to look out,” but a device illuminating the memories of this place.

The train window frames the distant landscape like a picture. The gentle ridgeline of the hills and the thickness of the clouds spread out beautifully, while the presence of the moving train is quietly restrained by the black window frame. The vastness of the outside world feels like “a view just for oneself” thanks to the filter of the window. It’s a window that makes you want to take a deep breath during your journey.

The train window becomes a small stage, captivating the viewer. The texture of the frosted glass gently distances the outside scenery, while the hand and smile directed toward us instantly close that gap. The window of a moving train is both a “frame” capturing fleeting encounters and a “catalyst” for serendipitous greetings.

The series of curved windows and balconies make the building itself seem to play the “rhythm of living.” The evening light gently illuminates the façade, and the white of the windows stands out, inviting us to imagine the atmosphere inside. The small figure walking along the street provides a sense of scale and synchronizes the window with the city’s passage of time. Just gazing at this window evokes memories of travel.

The composition, where only the windows cut out the blue and float in the darkness, is striking. While both windows reflect the same sea, the left is veiled in a soft haze, and the right shows a sharp outline of the “present.” These subtle differences seem to speak of distance, time, and the wavering of memory. A window imbued with a quiet sense of wanderlust.

The large window frames Mt. Fuji as if it were a painting—truly breathtaking. The contrast between the calm tones of the interior and the clear blue outside is pleasing, capturing the moment when a “place to view the scenery” becomes a “memory of staying.” Including the presence of the table and chairs, this window invites us to imagine the time spent by the window.

The window cut out of the white wall gently frames the greenery outside, resulting in a highly refined image. The lattice of the shoji and the frosted glass soften the gaze, conveying the life beyond with a sense of distance that “doesn’t reveal too much.” Even the gently missing shape at the top of the window contributes to an imperfect beauty, making this a work that quietly invites a deep breath.

In Closing

How did you find it?

The theme of ‘window’ is not only a “frame” for viewing the world, but also a “mirror” reflecting the presence on this side. The works submitted this time clearly conveyed each artist’s “window story”—the sense of distance through glass, the shifting of light, the serendipity of reflections and shadows.

Discovering new pieces—talents yet unseen—is precisely the role we hope to fulfill through this project. We hope your creative expression will inspire and reach even more people.

Look forward to our next theme.
