'neighborhood'
The corner of a street, the usual way home, windows aglow at night.
“Neighborhood” is where the layers of daily life accumulate.
Even if the happenings there are not dramatic, there are moments that linger in the heart.
With the changing seasons, even familiar scenes subtly shift their expression.
What kind of “neighborhood” atmosphere have you captured?
Show us the stories only you can see, hidden within nameless landscapes.

The two figures with baskets and the small back—just from their silhouettes, you can sense the rhythm of life in this place. The contrast between the mass of the mountains above and the softness of the grass underfoot is pleasing, allowing us to perceive the neighborhood not merely as “near home” but as a landscape that supports daily life. The absence of visible faces leaves space for the viewer’s own memories to fill in, which is part of its charm. A gentle moment is captured with palpable texture.

Looking up, you catch the gaze of a cat peering from the edge of a roof, making you stop in your tracks. Amid the sharp lines of power cables and the planar surfaces of buildings that define the city’s inorganic contours, a small black-and-white presence stands out, directly conveying the intensity of encounters in the neighborhood. The choice of monochrome is spot-on, and by stripping away information, the tension of the “moment of discovery” is heightened. This image reveals that such drama is hidden in the everyday heights around us.

The straight road and the repetition of utility poles transform an ordinary scene into a “depth of memory.” The distant mountains melt softly, while only the road in the foreground retains a clear outline, evoking the sensation of a familiar walk home. The prominent rainbow flare is striking, conveying the atmosphere of this place, including its brightness and humidity. This work quietly affirms the “richness of nothing happening” in the neighborhood.

At first glance, it’s just a hedge, but in the moment the light falls, a “creature” appears. This image is filled with such surprise. The shadow’s outline resembles a dinosaur or a bird, instantly transforming the neighborhood landscape into a playground. The texture of the greenery and the contrast between sunlight and shade are beautifully rendered, capturing the subtle expressions of times of day we often overlook.

The gradient sky shifting from deep blue to pale pink, with the moon and a single star quietly floating, delicately captures the threshold of time. A small figure holding a light in a field of flowers evokes both the tranquility of a vast “neighborhood” and the presence of daily life. Though an everyday scene, it feels like the prologue to a story. The gentle onset of night lingers in this image.

The scene of power lines layered over a sunset gradient is mesmerizing. It seems to capture not only the “lines” and “sounds” of the city but also the quiet sense of life in the neighborhood. The silhouettes of signs and buildings subtly hint at the place’s character, but the true protagonist is the color of the sky. The perspective that captures the fleeting changes in the few minutes after sunset is truly memorable.

The composition draws your gaze into the depths of a long corridor, instantly transforming a mere passageway into a “neighborhood landscape.” The rhythm of the columns and the striped shadows on the floor are pleasing, conveying the morning’s stillness and dry air. The distant apartment blocks in the background allow the scales of individual life and the larger city to coexist within a single frame. This perspective, which turns an everyday corridor into such a refined scene, is captivating.

The stone texture of the wall and the leaves of the ivy—just at their boundary, you can sense what it feels like to live in this city. The deep green holds shadows, while the light on the tips of the leaves preserves the tactile sense of the afternoon. Even a familiar wall, when its texture and rhythm are carefully observed, reveals the neighborhood as a rich “pattern.” The restraint in excluding unnecessary information and focusing solely on season and atmosphere is striking.

This work carefully captures a “moment of labor,” including the reflection on the water’s surface. While the figure in the foreground is firmly grounded, the background is blurred to create space, allowing the quiet presence of neighborhood life to emerge. The angle of the arm holding the tool and the ripples at the feet convey the rhythm of work directly. The pride found in everyday labor and the gentle light coexist in this image.

A child with a school backpack walks along the curve of the road, their small figure moving forward. In that instant alone, you sense the “usual morning” of this place. The composition, with the subject not looking back, draws the viewer to look in the same direction, immersing them in the neighborhood’s flow of time. The monochrome and graininess deepen the layers of memory, and together with the distant mountains and power lines, evoke the tactile sense of “home.” This work quietly celebrates the small departures of everyday life.

In the expanse of a clear blue sky, a small moon floats quietly. In response to this tranquility, the building on the right side of the frame answers with a strong repetition, making this image feel like it narrates the “shape” of the urban neighborhood. The gradation of shadows created by the balcony’s curves and the rust-like texture of the colors subtly convey the accumulation of time. Even with minimal information, you can imagine the temperature and sounds of the wind. This work shows how, with a single upward glance, the city can become profoundly poetic.

Beyond a tunnel of flowers, the outline of a house and dazzling light await. The depiction of this “entrance” is particularly captivating. The density of reds and greens fills the edges of the frame, naturally guiding the gaze inward and evoking a sense of small adventure within the neighborhood. The shadows at your feet and the fallen petals convey the pace at which the seasons pass. This image gently captures the moment when a familiar path suddenly appears festive.
