photo poster project | A Place Where Photos and People Connect by Tatsuya Yamada / R | ISSUE #101

Since the end of last year, cizucu has been hosting the across various locations in Japan. By simply submitting your photos to cizucu, you can participate in the photo poster exhibition and meet new photographer friends you've never encountered before.
This time, we had the opportunity to speak with Tatsuya Yamada / R, a creator who participated in the .

Please introduce yourself!
My name is Tatsuya Yamada, and I work as a photographer, writer, and freelancer while running a shop called "Tsumugu LaB" in Chita City, Aichi Prefecture.
Many people call me "R," so feel free to remember me by that name as well.
Tell us about your first time participating!
I have hosted photo exhibitions myself and often visited other exhibitions to learn about display methods, so I was already interested.
However, the biggest reason was the courteous response I received from cizucu when I asked about concerns regarding participation.
I think it's often overlooked, but it's very important to know whether the organizers are trustworthy individuals.

Have you experienced any changes through multiple participations?
Thankfully, I was able to participate as a staff member during the Nagoya event and was even entrusted with being the MC during the gallery talk.

It was refreshing to interact with people of different ages, genders, and photography skills. Thanks to the warm interactions with everyone at the venue, I feel that my personality has grown significantly.
What do you find appealing about the photo poster project?
First of all, the participation barrier is much lower compared to general photo exhibitions. Submit your work to cizucu → Choose the venue where you want to exhibit → Show up at the venue on the day. That's it.

Secondly, it helps you gain confidence in your work. The atmosphere of cizucu's fosters a culture of finding, praising, and appreciating the good aspects of each piece, rather than criticizing. Thanks to this, I received many encouraging words.
A message to those considering participating in the photo poster project
If you feel like "there's no one around me who does photography," this photo poster project is exactly for you.
Also, if you're hesitating about participating for the second time, consider joining as a helper for the exhibition setup next time.
Being involved in the setup of such projects is actually a very valuable experience, and you can enjoy a cultural festival-like atmosphere. It's fun, even for first-timers!
