For several years, I captured the familiar landscapes and nature of Hokkaido with my smartphone through Instagram. One day, I was struck by a follower's photo showing waterfalls and streams flowing like white threads. I was filled with questions like 'How is this possible?' and 'Why does it look like this?'

These questions gradually fueled my growing interest in photography.

A turning point came when my friend, who started Instagram at the same time as me, bought a DSLR. It was refreshing and impressive to see someone with a camera, as I didn't know anyone else who had one. Watching her passionately take photos made me want to have a camera too.

I'm not usually someone who gets inspired by appearances, but this time I was. However, when it came to choosing a camera, I was clueless. Then, another encounter happened.

One winter morning, while photographing drift ice near my home, I met a man filming with a drone. We struck up a conversation and discovered we lived in the same town. I knew him by name.

A few days later, we met again by the sea, and I casually asked him about cameras. He offered me his unused Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G6, saying it was an old model. I was surprised but gratefully accepted it, finally having my first personal camera.

Using the LUMIX DMC-G6, I realized how deep photography is! From settings and functions to composition and capturing light, a whole new world beyond smartphones opened up.

Though there's still much I don't know, I enjoy finding 'moments to capture' in everyday life with this camera. I'm grateful to those who led me to my first beloved camera, and I hope to gradually capture photos that reflect my style.
