Introduction
Contemporary urban life is filled with complexity. Among the world's great metropolises, Tokyo stands out for its unique blend of bustle and tranquility. The beauty of Tokyo, the intricate system of the city, and the relationship between human presence and urban dissonance—these are the themes explored by photographer Kousuke Shimasaki. His solo exhibition, 'TOKYO UTOPIA,' which delves into the uncanny urban images woven by photography and digital technology, will be held at Auba Jaconelli in Asakusa, Taito Ward, from Saturday, July 22 to Sunday, July 30.
Be sure to also read our interview with Shimasaki.
Kousuke Shimasaki
Kousuke Shimasaki / With the theme of 'the connection between the scent of a place and memory,' he poetically expresses through photography the invisible scents and emotions he experiences in specific locations. At the core of his practice is a reverence for nature, cultivated in his hometown, which informs his daily work—particularly his attention to color, light, and the contrast of shadows.

Toward the Solo Exhibition
I have long discussed the idea of holding a solo exhibition with the owner of Auba Jaconelli, a select apparel shop in Asakusabashi with whom I regularly collaborate on product photography. Thanks to this connection, we were able to move forward with the exhibition this July.
With only a few days left until the opening, I am immersed in a whirlwind of preparations—arranging frames, printing, and finalizing the works. I am confident this solo exhibition will be an enjoyable experience for all visitors!
Message I Wish to Convey
This body of work is inspired by an imaginary Tokyo landscape that appeared to me in a dream two years ago.
I hope you will experience the uncanny new vision of the city that emerges from the fusion of contemporary digital technology and traditional photographic practice.
