私の生まれ育った、 広島市南区段原には、 町をなぞるように比治山があります。 段原は、比治山の影によって 原爆被害を免れた町としても知られています。 その比治山の上にある広島市現代美術館の屋根は、 上から見るとC字状に開かれており、 その先には、ヘンリー・ムーアの《アーチ》が向く 爆心地の方向があると言われています。 この写真では、 その視線を逆方向から辿るように、 《アーチ》をフレームとして使い、 桜と現美の構図を決め、 そこへ人が通る瞬間を待って撮影しました。 現美からアーチ越しに爆心地を望むことが 平和への願いだとするなら、 逆側から見たこの風景は、 現在の穏やかな日常そのもののようにも見えました。
