British Journal of Photography (BJP) has announced that it is pausing its print edition and moving to digital-only publication, effective the week of the announcement.
In a statement to readers posted on BJP’s official Instagram, CEO and creative director Mick Moore said, “We are not immune to the pressures currently facing publishers around the world. In particular, printing and distribution costs continue to rise.” He added, “We have reached a point where continuing to print would put the magazine itself at risk. As a result, BJP will be published digitally only from this week.” He described the move away from print as a “pause.”
Editorial work will continue, and every new issue will be published in full through the Online Library, alongside the magazine’s archive. Mick Moore also made it clear that BJP intends to return to print, saying the team is “working toward restarting it.” No timeline or conditions for its return have been announced.
Several UK photography magazines have ended publication in recent years. Digital Photographer stopped regular publication in 2025 and told subscribers that the remainder of their subscriptions would be transferred to Digital Camera Magazine.
Photography News also officially announced on August 18, 2026, that it was closing and would cease publication immediately. Those cases differ from BJP’s decision to pause its print edition while working toward its return. The magazines’ announcements do not confirm that the same rising costs cited by BJP were behind their closures.
