Introduction
The Artificial Glow is a global online photography contest presented by cizucu and open to all creators registered with cizucu. By curating outstanding submissions, the contest seeks to discover emerging talent through the platform and support it through the community.
This edition explored the theme of artificial light.
Even after the sun has set and people have disappeared from view, myriad lights remain throughout our towns and cities: the glow of a home spilling through a gap in the curtains; fluorescent lamps illuminating an empty station; a late-night convenience store; or a streetlamp standing beside a quiet road.
Without portraying people directly, artificial light brings into relief the lives, moments, and human presence embedded within a place.
At the same time, light left burning in the darkness can evoke traces of human presence while deepening the shadows of absence and solitude. We invited works that traced the contours of human activity.
We are delighted to present a selection of submissions and the awarded works.

The red-outlined towers seem to release into the night the immense heat stored within the city. Rather than light merely adorning the buildings, it appears to embody the labor, desires, and vital energy of the people concentrated there. We could feel the warmth of the city pulsing like a vast living organism.

Red and blue light races through the space, giving visible form to the vibrations of the music and the intensity of the crowd. Color swirls around the central performer, heightening the exhilaration of the scene. It feels as though the light itself takes us by the hand and draws us into the clamor of the live music club.

The deep blue of the fading sky and the light spilling from the shop interior frame the illuminated barbershop sign, layering color across the city at dusk. By noticing and photographing something so familiar that it usually slips from conscious view, the artist transforms an ordinary street corner into a resonant scene.

A leveled road, evenly spaced streetlights, and signs pointing the way: although every element speaks of human intervention, following the orange glow across the pavement seems to lead not deeper into the city, but toward a realm beyond any trace of human presence. Though we appear to be moving through an artificial order, the work evokes the sensation of slipping beyond the coordinates of reality.

The illuminated signage dissolves into the street as a radiant haze, while smoke infused with its glow conveys the air clinging to the skin, the heat outside the storefront, and even the disembodied murmur of voices. Light, smoke, and silhouettes merge within the humid atmosphere, as though the work had captured the very moisture of the city's night.

The city's lights may be open to everyone, yet the time spent contemplating them belongs to the individual alone. Even this vast illumination will eventually settle into one person's memory. Amid the glare, perhaps this figure is waiting for their thoughts to regain definition—leaving both today and what lies ahead beyond the light, without putting either into words.

We hope you enjoyed the selection.
Through these works, we were reminded that artificial light does more than illuminate a city: it also gives form to the accumulated warmth, silences, and memories of its inhabitants. The next time a light catches your eye at night, imagine for whom it burns and what kind of time it sustains.
