‘A Refrain Calling’ is a global online photo contest curated by cizucu, open to all creators registered on cizucu. Outstanding works will be selected through a curatorial process, aiming to discover new talent on the platform and foster support within the community.
This edition’s theme is <Repetitions>.
The same shapes, the same colors, the same sizes, the same orientations.
As we walk outside, we sometimes find ourselves drawn to things that appear repeatedly. Rows of bicycles, a succession of windows, flocks of birds, people sitting in a line. These repetitions, though each element is small, connect, overlap, and space themselves in ways that create a visual rhythm within the photograph, as if marking a beat.
Whether it’s a regular arrangement or a serendipitous overlap, we invite you to share scenes that call out to your eye with a sense of refrain.

It’s impressive how not only the repetition of the rings themselves, but also their shadows, are captured. The interplay of the tangible and the shadow within the same frame, overlapping and diverging, creates a layered rhythm that goes beyond a simple sequence of forms.

This work beautifully captures the continuity of the human body. Each dancer’s posture is slightly different, yet together they create a flowing movement. The alignment of the dancers and their shadows overlap, evoking a sense of time being marked by the bodies themselves.

The rounded backs of the chairs, receding into the depth of the frame, create a compelling composition. The vertical lines of the aisle and armrests on the left add a sense of depth, while the repetition of red surfaces echoes this rhythm. Within the regular arrangement, subtle variations in the height and angle of the chair backs introduce a nuanced continuity that avoids monotony.

The regularity and scale of this architectural structure are powerfully conveyed. The columns and arches, aligned at equal intervals, impart a mathematical and geometric order to the space itself. The repeated structures not only create depth but also seem to extend the viewer’s spatial perception far into the distance.

Set against a blue sky, the white smoke trails create a graphic composition of lines and negative space. It’s notable that the focus is not on the airplane itself, but on the overlapping trajectories drawn in the sky. The repetition of the flowing lines imparts a sense of dynamic movement across the entire frame.
