A nightscape with Kobe Port Tower as the protagonist. The intricate geometric patterns of the steel structure are illuminated in red, resembling blood vessels pulsing with the city’s heartbeat. The bold foreground bokeh further accentuates the main subject. Whether it’s a fountain lit by red lights or flames from an event, the sense of movement adds vitality and depth to the tower, framing it with a sense of life. The passionate red emerging from the darkness makes for a visually compelling image.

A photograph capturing a convex mirror. It was the first time I noticed the red roof-like structure on this mirror. While it may seem like a simple shot of a road mirror, in the context of the ‘red’ theme, the red element serves as a complementary color, making the surrounding deep greens stand out and imbuing the entire frame with a sense of freshness. The work captures a small discovery from daily life and conveys the atmosphere as it is, making it particularly captivating.

A shot focusing on the feet of a shrine maiden. The traditional contrast of red and white is rendered dramatically through calculated light and shadow. By intentionally omitting the full figure and face, and focusing on the ‘red’ of the hakama in mid-step, the image conveys both the sacred atmosphere unique to shrines and the dignified strength of the miko. The long shadow stretching across the stone pavement and the low evening light deepen and enrich the red. Capturing the meaningful ‘red’ of the red-and-white motif, the work is imbued with a poetic sensibility, enhanced by its context and setting.

In Closing

We hope you enjoyed this feature.
It’s been a while since we ran a color-themed hashtag campaign, but it allowed us to focus on colors hidden in various places, and the lack of subject restrictions led to a wide range of submissions and new discoveries.
Continue to share your works capturing ‘red’ found in the city with the <#red> tag!
