This time, we spoke with Bruce, a creator who took part in the photo poster project.
Please introduce yourself!
Nice to meet you. I go by the name Bruce.
I am an amateur photographer drawn to capturing the interplay of light and shadow, as well as the urban landscape. For me, photography is not merely a means of documenting daily life, but a dialogue with the world and a way to express my inner self.
The slanting rays of afternoon sunlight, the reflections of the city on rain-soaked streets—within these seemingly ordinary scenes, I sense a unique poetic quality. I believe the essence of photography lies in discovering beauty that has yet to be noticed.
Capturing fleeting moments with my camera and imbuing them with a sense of narrative and warmth—through my lens, I hope to share with you my unique perspective and the beautiful scenes I encounter along the way.
What inspired you to participate?
I decided to participate in the photo poster project because I wanted to meet and connect with others who share a passion for photography. I was especially drawn to the idea of a space where participants could gather, converse about photography, and naturally foster communication.
Ordinarily, I rarely have the opportunity to present my photographs in public or directly share the stories behind my works. That is why this project, which allowed me to communicate my thoughts alongside my photographs, was such a valuable experience.
I am truly grateful to have been able to participate in this kind of activity in Taiwan.
How was your experience participating?
On the day of the exhibition, the moment I stepped into the gallery and saw my work on display, I felt a joy I will never forget.
At that moment, I realized that I had finally fulfilled a small dream I had held in my heart for so long.
During the gallery talk, when it was my turn to speak about my work, everyone listened intently and responded with warm applause, which deeply moved me. Through this project, I also made many new connections and, in talking with each person, was able to experience their passion for photography and their unique forms of expression.
It was a truly wonderful experience, sharing from the heart with others who love photography.
Why did you choose this particular photograph?
This photograph was taken at Li Ting Xiang, a long-established confectionery shop in Dihua Street. That day, I was strolling and snapping photos around the city when I happened to step inside and look around. The sunlight streaming through the window gently illuminated the shop interior, and I was so struck by its beauty that I instinctively pressed the shutter.
When I looked back at the photograph after shooting, I noticed that a 'No Parking' traffic sign was captured just outside the window. The contrast between the calm, somewhat elegant atmosphere inside the shop and the realistic sign outside left a strong impression on me and evoked a sense of narrative.
Additionally, since the exhibition venue was in Dadaocheng, Dihua Street, I felt that this photograph naturally resonated with the setting of the show. The exhibition took place during the coldest part of winter, but through this image, I hoped to warm the hearts of those who visited the gallery, even if just a little.
