cizucu Presents “Beyond the Subject” | Challenge #329

“Beyond the Subject” is a global online photography open call curated by cizucu, open to all creators registered on cizucu. Outstanding works will be curated from the submissions, with the aim of discovering new talent for the platform and supporting the community.

This edition’s theme is “Negative Space”.

Photography is a medium that captures visual information from a single moment.
However, it cannot convey what happened before or after that moment, nor what lies outside the frame or beyond the visual. This inherent incompleteness becomes the “negative space” that stimulates the viewer’s imagination.

Rather than simply enlarging your subject, try obscuring part of it, using a wider frame, or shooting in monochrome to create negative space. Where there is negative space, intention emerges.

Show us a photograph where your intention is embedded in the negative space. By intentionally framing your subject differently than usual, you may discover a new world.

I followed a crow and ended up in a place bathed in dazzling western sunlight. As sunset approached, people and bicycles were bustling about, but my intended crow model escaped, leaving me heartbroken. Yet, the scene I witnessed was truly captivating.
