Places with People

‘Places with People’ is a global online photo contest curated by cizucu, open to all creators registered on cizucu. Outstanding submissions will be curated, with the aim of discovering new talent for the platform and supporting the community as a whole.

This edition’s theme is ‘Places with People’.

A place often only gains its character when people are present.
People pausing, walking, or simply inhabiting a space.
Their presence transforms a location into a meaningful scene.

Even in the same place, the people present and the passage of time can create entirely different stories.

‘Places with People’ invites you to focus on the relationships that arise between people and the spaces they inhabit.

Whether it’s a familiar spot from your daily life or a place you encountered on your travels,

Capture the narrative that emerges from the presence of people in a place, through your unique perspective.

The shopping arcade is not a place reserved for anyone special, but is equally open to all who live their daily lives. The moments spent choosing goods, the backs of those who pause, the footsteps passing by—these layers together give this place its reality of ‘today.’ Buildings and signage alone do not create a scene; only when people gather and bring the presence of daily life does the arcade truly come alive. Whether you pass through or linger, this photograph quietly conveys the openness of such a space.

A station is both someone’s destination and a point of transit. People pausing, hurrying, intersecting shadows—all these countless movements overlap, inscribing the rhythm of a day into the space. Here, each individual may seem small, yet the flow of people transforms the station from a mere structure into a ‘place of ongoing life.’ This work quietly captures the unmistakable human presence that resides within anonymity.

On a snowy night, the quietude enveloping the temple is layered with the footsteps and breath of people. The figures walking with umbrellas, treading through the snow, impart a mysterious warmth to this place. It is not history or architecture alone, but the warmth and presence of people that fill the space, transforming a site of prayer into a place for those ‘here and now.’ Though a winter scene, this photograph conveys a palpable sense of warmth.

A seemingly empty lot is instantly transformed into a special scene by the laughter and running footsteps of children. The bubbles they chase animate the space with rhythm, making it feel as though the place was made for play. As people gather and share innocent moments, the space gently opens up. This work lightly captures the moment when human presence gives a place meaning and memory.

Beyond the noren curtain lies a somewhat closed-off space. Yet, the distance between two people sitting across from each other, their exchanged glances, and the unspoken pauses all lend a quiet warmth to the room. It is not the establishment itself that comes first, but the act of someone sitting down and sharing time that transforms a place into a ‘sense of belonging.’ This photograph reveals how human relationships imbue even the most enclosed spaces with genuine meaning.
