Perovskite, a next-generation sensor material, dramatically enhances the most critical elements of photographic expression: resolution and color reproduction. Developed by the Swiss research institutions ETH Zurich and Empa, this technology achieves three times the light intake and resolution of conventional silicon sensors.

Its innovative stacked RGB pixel structure enables new photographic expressions that were previously impossible.

Revolutionary Technology: Stacking RGB Vertically

The most notable feature of perovskite sensors is their ability to stack RGB pixels vertically without using filters for each color.

While traditional silicon sensors lose about two-thirds of incoming light, perovskite captures all incident light, resulting in vivid, highly color-accurate images. Low-light photography is also significantly improved, expanding creative possibilities for nightscapes and indoor photography.

Eliminating Noise for a Realistic World

This new sensor also significantly reduces digital noise. Issues like demosaicing and moiré patterns, which were unavoidable with traditional cameras, are fundamentally eliminated.

As a result, the colors and textures of subjects are reproduced with exceptional realism, making it an ideal tool for creators pursuing intricate details.

Expanding the Future of Photography for Creators

The benefits of this technology extend beyond smartphones and cameras. It is expected to be utilized in diverse fields such as medical imaging, environmental monitoring, and even hyperspectral imaging.

By actively adopting this technology, creators can expand not only photographic and video expressions but also the scope of artistic works.
