Wajima Okutsuhime Shrine Grand Festival
I want to capture the wonderful festival in Wajima again
Spotlight by Jang Kumi
The Okutsuhime Shrine Grand Festival, commonly known as the 'Ama Festival', is held annually on August 22 in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is a festival based on the legend that the goddess of 'Hegura Island', floating 50 kilometers off the coast of Wajima, visits the male god of Wajima once a year, resulting in the birth of a new deity. In line with this legend, the mikoshi is carried by men dressed as women. They wear makeup and colorful waist wraps and enter the sea with the chant 'Yassa Yassa'. This photo vividly brings back the scene. The sunset over Sodegahama, the brave figures of the men, and the majestic presence of the mikoshi create a triad of beauty.

American Village
In American Village, located in Mihama, Chatan Town, Okinawa Prefecture, fireworks are launched every Saturday night during the summer. The sea stretches out before you, and I captured the sea and fireworks with my iPhone.

The vibrant atmosphere of the moment is fully conveyed. The balance of the sky, fireworks, the people watching, and the decorative lights is exquisite, making you feel as if you are there. While many photos capture fireworks in a dynamic and large way, this expression of fireworks is truly remarkable.

This piece makes you realize that the beauty of green is not limited to vibrant hues. The moss-covered straight stone path, with a torii at the end, reveals it as a shrine approach. The carefully planted and pruned cedar trees convey a sense of tranquility.
