Mission

In the act of photography, focal length is not merely a matter of physical distance—it is deeply intertwined with psychological proximity. Whether your subject is a person, animal, plant, or inanimate object, the choice to close the gap and photograph up close is only possible when there is genuine interest, understanding, affection, or a meaningful relationship with the subject. Are you familiar with the term "palm"? "Palm" is an ancient British unit of measurement, based on the width of a human hand. While it varies from person to person, it is standardized as 1 palm = approximately 7.4 cm, with 14 palms equaling about 1 meter. This Open Call invites submissions on the theme: "Focal Length Within 1 Meter." We are seeking photographs captured at a focal distance of 14 palms, reflecting the intimacy and connection between photographer and subject. While this may sound technical, we encourage you to simply try photographing a little closer than usual—don’t overthink it! We look forward to seeing your compelling works! *Submissions that violate our guidelines ( https://www.cizucu.com/terms/guideline ) will not be considered by the curatorial team. *Selected artists may be contacted by the cizucu team to confirm personal information such as address.
