Mission
Zenkyo-an, a Zen temple located in Higashiyama, Kyoto, is renowned for enshrining Marishiten, a guardian deity widely revered for bestowing good fortune and victory. Zenkyo-an is counted among the 'Three Great Marishiten Temples of Japan.' In recent years, the temple has become known as a space open to the arts, hosting live performances, contemporary art exhibitions, and picture book showcases. The head priest, Masamune Uematsu, is also a filmmaker and has previously taught photography techniques at an art university in Kyoto. For this collaboration with Zenkyo-an, the theme is 'Expressions of Emotion – Your Seven Hues.' Participants may submit up to seven photographs. The inner world, with its infinite gradations, cannot be fully captured by words like joy, anger, sorrow, or pleasure. Engage in a dialogue with your emotions through the lens. We eagerly await your photographic submissions that express your inner world. [Message from Head Priest Uematsu of Zenkyo-an] Thank you for your interest in this contest. The idea of 'expressing your emotions through photography' was born from my experience as a university lecturer, where I constantly reflected on how to face my inner self and express it through art. People are moved by the objects and landscapes before them, prompting them to raise their cameras and press the shutter. While the moment is captured, simply taking a photo does not convey the emotion felt at that time to others. This time, we are not seeking beautiful scenery or objects, nor photographs meant to garner approval. The human heart possesses emotions with rich tonalities that cannot be fully articulated or easily conveyed. The seven selected works will be exhibited at Zenkyo-an. *After cizucu acquires the license for the awarded works, they will be used for exhibition in accordance with the terms of use.
