Mission

Sometimes, a photograph gains meaning not at the moment it is taken, but when it is revisited later. Even if the subject remains unchanged, the viewer’s sense of time and perception evolves, transforming the image over the years. Perhaps a truly great photograph is one that shifts and reveals new facets each time it is seen. Rather than capturing something new, try shining a light on an image that has been quietly resting in the depths of your photo folder. For example, a photograph you took five years ago. Or perhaps an image that you didn’t take yourself, but one that lingers in your memory from a family album or an old camera—something that resonates with you for reasons you can’t quite explain. Family albums, instant prints displayed in your room, Polaroids—all of these are photographs, too. This edition’s theme is: .
