Taken at Sol Beach, Lagos, Nigeria, back in 2024, this photograph captures more than an afternoon by the sea. What began as a frustrating day eventually became one filled with unexpected reunion, laughter, and reflection when childhood friends appeared by chance on the same stretch of shoreline. Looking back, the image feels less like a photograph and more like a memory. The figures stand suspended in a moment in time between the land and the sea, each lost in their own world, while the golden light softens the scene into something timeless. This holiday was memorable for different reasons. Getting to reconnect with my roots and visit family that I hadn’t seen in years. And experiencing Nigeria as an adult for the first time. This would also become the last trip I shared with my grandmother before her passing in 2025. As memories fade and change with time, photographs become anchors. For me, this image holds the warmth of reunion, the comfort of family, and a moment that now exists only in memory
