This photograph, taken in Thailand, is part of a series of images I have been making around the world over the past eight years. Through these works, I explore the imprint of architecture and the lingering traces of tourism, colonialism, and development in non-Western countries : how these places absorb, repurpose, or coexist with structures and symbols once presented, through the colonizer’s gaze, as promises of wealth, progress, and social improvement. This particular structure had long faded into indifference; no one seemed to notice it anymore. Yet, I stopped before it, compelled to capture this metallic memory embedded in the landscape; a remnant of past ambitions, still standing in quiet tension with its surroundings.
