Nikon Corporation has released the latest firmware for its mirrorless camera, the Z 9. The announcement date is March 13, 2024, and the version number is Ver.5.00.
This marks the fourth major update since the camera's release. Notably, this update brings expanded features for Auto Capture and High-Speed Frame Capture+, as well as the introduction of the new Rich Tone Portrait mode, significantly enhancing portrait photography functions.

Advancements in Auto Capture
The Auto Capture mode, introduced in Ver.4.00, has been further refined with the addition of a scheduling feature for shooting start times. This allows for reduced battery consumption after setup. Improvements also include support for shooting in DX format and the addition of 'airplane' to subject detection options.
High-Speed Frame Capture+ and Enhanced Flicker Reduction
A new low-speed 'C15' mode has been added to High-Speed Frame Capture+, along with expanded frequency presets to reduce flicker from LED lighting and advertising boards.
New Picture Control Features
The newly added Rich Tone Portrait Picture Control offers enhanced options for portraiture, including 'Portrait Impression Balance' and 'Skin Softening' features to make portrait photography even more compelling.
Enhanced Shooting and Operational Convenience
Portrait photography workflow is improved with features such as 'Focus Point Priority (Face Detection)' during playback magnification and the ability to use the Profoto A10's white LED as an AF assist light. Additional enhancements include improved manual focus operation and customizable focus point frames.
This update contributes to faster and more efficient shooting, offering Z 9 users a new photographic experience.
