The Dance of Sarus

This image holds a very personal place in my journey as a photographer. It was the first time I truly fell in love with birds, not just as subjects, but as living beings with presence, emotion, and rhythm.

These are sarus cranes, the tallest flying birds in the world. Standing close to them felt almost unreal. They were nearly as tall as me, yet light enough to rise into the air. I had been observing them for two days, and in the dying light of sunset, something in their movement made me feel they were about to dance.

I followed that instinct, reached the spot, and within moments they began. Wings opened, water lifted, and the whole scene unfolded in front of me.

Watching birds this large move with such grace made me understand where the idea of angels might have come from. This photograph is my memory of that moment: the moment birds stopped being background noise, and became wonder.
