Wild Boys Part of the Wild Boys series, this portrait was made during my university years, following a night out that had carried well into the early hours. The work explores the tension between freedom and discipline, and the idea that serious creative practice does not have to exist separately from pleasure, spontaneity or chaos. There is always a balance to maintain. Work cannot become entirely serious, just as life cannot become entirely carefree. The image presents the quieter, more controlled side of that relationship. What remains outside the frame is everything that came before it: the laughter, the excess, the energy and the shared experience known only to those who were there. In that sense, the portrait becomes less about a single moment and more about the transition between two states: from play into concentration, from disorder into stillness.
