otters stretching by a pond in the morning
otters stretching by a pond in the morning

Aashif Ismadi

Hi, my name is Aashif, and I’m a therapy assistant working in palliative care. I see people at the end of their lives almost every day. One of my patients shared a piece of advice that has stayed with me ever since: “Money isn’t everything. Enjoy life, stay healthy, and don’t regret not doing the things you truly want to do.” Those words made me realize how often we postpone the things that bring us joy. Inspired by that conversation, I finally bought a Fujifilm X-T30 III—something I had wanted for a while—and took this photo in April. The photo captures three smooth-coated otters doing their morning stretches, mirroring the elderly people exercising in the background. It reminded me that, no matter the species, we all begin our day in surprisingly similar ways.
