The Silent Frame

I took this photograph during a week of community service, when I was staying in a village with a group of students. We were given a local school as our place to stay, and because our work began early each day, mornings usually started around 6:00 or 6:30. One morning, I stepped outside and noticed the sun rising behind this tree, with a lone bird perched quietly on one of its branches. Everything around us was quiet and still………..the village had barely begun to wake, and the warm morning light made the scene feel unusually peaceful. What stayed with me was the contrast between the simplicity of the moment and the purpose of why we were there. We had come to spend a week serving the community, living away from our usual routines and starting each day with work ahead of us. Yet this quiet sunrise became one of the moments I remember most.
