Leica Camera AG has announced a new camera grip for iPhone, the 'Leica LUX Grip'. Priced at $329 (equivalent to 49,350 yen at an exchange rate of 150 yen per dollar).
Reflecting the classic design philosophy of Leica cameras, it aims to enhance the operability and expressiveness of smartphone photography. The product is scheduled to be released in February 2025.
Intuitive Attachment with MagSafe, Leica-like Operability
The 'Leica LUX Grip' features a MagSafe-compatible magnetic attachment, allowing easy installation on iPhones. It connects via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to the dedicated 'Leica LUX' app, offering a variety of shooting functions.
The shutter button is two-stage, allowing focus lock with a half-press and shutter release with a full press, similar to Leica's professional cameras. Additionally, it includes a mode switch button and a control dial for adjusting zoom and exposure compensation.
Reproducing Leica's Unique Color Expression and Analog Feel
The 'Leica LUX' app recreates the distinctive bokeh of Leica M lenses like the Summilux and Noctilux, allowing adjustments to exposure and ISO sensitivity. Additionally, it features a 'Leica Looks' function to create a film-like texture even in digital.
Color expression ranges from 'Vivid' to classic 'Black & White', enabling unique photographic expressions. Purchasing and registering the 'Leica LUX Grip' grants a one-year free subscription to the app's paid version.
Lightweight and Durable Design with Sustainability in Mind
Weighing approximately 130g, it is designed for ease of use regardless of the dominant hand. It includes a battery capable of taking up to 1,000 photos on a single charge, with support for 2-hour fast charging via USB-C. By replacing the MagSafe base plate, it can continue to be used even after changing iPhone models, allowing for long-term use.
The 'Leica LUX Grip' will be available at Leica stores, the Leica online store, Leica boutiques, and authorized dealers. Leica celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2025, with commemorative events and new product announcements planned, drawing attention to future developments.
