Canon has announced the development of the full-frame mirrorless camera 'EOS R1'. The announcement was made on May 15, 2024. It will be the first flagship model (top-tier model) in the EOS R system equipped with deep learning. The release is planned for 2024.

The newly added 'EOS R1' to Canon's EOS R series is positioned as the highest-grade model in digital single-lens reflex cameras. It fills the long-vacant flagship position, boasting high performance to meet the needs of professionals in sports, journalism, and video production.
Newly Developed Imaging Engine and Deep Learning Technology
The 'EOS R1' is equipped with the newly developed 'DIGIC Accelerator' in addition to the traditional 'DIGIC X', and it also features a new CMOS sensor. The new imaging engine system integrates with deep learning technology to achieve high-speed and high-precision subject recognition and tracking performance. This allows for accurate tracking of subjects even in fast-moving sports.

Action-Priority AF and Image Quality Enhancement
The AF function of the 'EOS R1' includes an 'Action Priority' feature that automatically detects subject actions. It instantly recognizes subjects performing specific actions and moves the AF frame accordingly.
Furthermore, the new imaging system and deep learning technology contribute to improved image quality, enabling noise reduction within the camera.
Field tests are currently underway, and its use in upcoming international sports events is anticipated.
