Tamron Co. has announced the development of the interchangeable lens '11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD (Model B060)' for Canon RF mount. The announcement date is April 23, 2024. The release is planned for 2024, with pricing yet to be determined.

Tamron's First RF Mount Lens Under Development

Tamron is developing a new product compatible with the Canon RF mount, based on the existing '11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD (Model B060)' lens. Previously, Tamron's mirrorless camera lenses were limited to Sony E mount, Nikon Z mount, and Fujifilm X mount, but with a licensing agreement, a product line for Canon RF mount will be added.

The '11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD' is a large-aperture ultra-wide-angle zoom lens optimized for APS-C size image sensors. It was released for Sony E mount in 2021 and for Fujifilm X mount in 2023. For Canon RF mount, the focal length will be equivalent to 17.6-32mm in 35mm format, delivering high performance for video shooting.

Achieve High-Precision Shooting with RXD Motor

'RXD' stands for Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive, featuring a stepping motor unit. This enables quiet and swift autofocus even during video recording. Additionally, the shortest shooting distance at the wide end is 0.15m, with a maximum magnification of 1:4. The lens is also very compact for a large-aperture ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, making it easy to carry.

Main Specifications of the New Product

The official specifications of the new product have not been announced. However, assuming it is equivalent to the original lens, the following specifications are expected.

  • Angle of view (diagonal): 105°20' - 71°35' <when used with APS-C size mirrorless cameras>
