Ricoh Imaging Company, Ltd. has unveiled the compact digital cameras 'RICOH GR III HDF' and 'RICOH GR IIIx HDF'. The release date is scheduled for April 12, 2024. The open price, with expected retail prices being mid-140,000 yen (including tax) for 'RICOH GR III HDF' and early 150,000 yen (including tax) for 'RICOH GR IIIx HDF'. Available in Japan through the company's official online shop.
Emotional Expression Through Special Effect Filters
The core of 'RICOH GR III HDF' and 'RICOH GR IIIx HDF' is the newly developed special effect filter 'HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter)'. Utilizing Ricoh's long-standing inkjet technology, the filter achieves emotional expressions reminiscent of film photography and cinema by diffusing highlights.
Quick ON/OFF Switching of HDF Effect
Initially, the Fn button is assigned the HDF ON/OFF function, allowing users to quickly toggle this special effect with a single touch. This enables diverse expressions across various scenes, adapting to shooting conditions and styles.
Design Changes and New Features
The design features a release button painted in grayish silver, with the 'HDF' logo printed on the back. Functionally, the number of custom white balance registrations has increased to three, and a new 'Zone Select AF' feature has been added. This allows users to freely move the focus point to achieve autofocus at the appropriate distance and position from the subject. The newly added features will be available through firmware updates for all models in the 'GR III/GR IIIx series' in the future, maintaining the same specifications as previous models, except for the ND filter.
