Sony has announced the E-mount interchangeable lens “FE 24-50mm F2.8 G” ahead of CP+2024. The lens will be released on May 17, 2024. Pricing is open, with an anticipated market price of approximately 180,000 yen (tax included). At CP+2024, it will be showcased for the first time in Japan.
This lens covers a focal length range from 24mm to 50mm, enabling creators to express themselves across a wide variety of subjects and scenes, from everyday snapshots and landscapes to portraiture, for both still photography and video.
Despite being a large-aperture standard zoom lens compatible with 35mm full-frame sensors, it is even more compact and lightweight than the G Lens standard zoom “FE 20-70mm F4 G” (total length 99mm, weight 488g), with a total length of 92.3mm and weight of 440g.
By effectively arranging four aspherical elements and two ED glass elements, the lens minimizes chromatic and other aberrations, delivering high resolution from the center to the edges of the frame. The 11-blade circular aperture and optimized spherical aberration contribute to the signature G Lens bokeh, producing beautifully smooth and soft background rendering.
With two optimized linear motors and advanced lens control, the lens achieves fast, precise, and highly responsive autofocus performance. It supports high-speed continuous shooting at up to approximately 120 frames per second with the “α9 III,” fully leveraging the camera body's capabilities.
