On April 13, 2024, a press conference held at the French Embassy in Hiroo, Tokyo, revealed the details of 'KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photography Festival 2024.' This year’s edition will take place from Saturday, April 13 to Saturday, May 12, 2024, featuring 13 exhibitions across 12 venues.
The annual 'KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photography Festival' is renowned for presenting diverse photography exhibitions throughout Kyoto. Last year, the festival welcomed 239,676 visitors, marking a 21% increase from the previous year.
2024 Theme: “SOURCE”
Following last year’s theme of “BORDER,” the 2024 edition explores the concept of “SOURCE,” presenting works that trace origins and suggest alternative futures.
Among the notable featured artists is Japanese photographer Kikuji Kawada, whose work will be exhibited on the second floor of the South Wing at Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art. In addition, photographers Rinko Kawauchi and Tokuko Ushioda will engage in a dialogue through a joint exhibition centered on the theme of family, reflecting over 40 years of photographic practice from their respective perspectives.
Other participating artists include Tetsuo Kashiwada, Claudia Andujar, and the Chinese collective Birdhead, offering a wide range of photographic art. The festival also supports emerging artists, with the open call for submissions accepted until Sunday, December 31, 2023.
During the festival period, the music festival 'KYOTOPHONIE' will also be held on weekends. For detailed schedules and admission fees, please refer to the official website.
