The Japan Institute of Photography and Film will launch its new 'Photo Communication Department' (Evening Program / 2-year course) in April 2024.
This new department is designed to nurture the ability to build connections with people and society through photography. It primarily targets learners with prior professional experience, providing a platform for lifelong learning. The program supports those seeking a community of peers to study photography with, or those wishing to advance from a hobby to a more in-depth, professional engagement with photography.
Concept of the New Department
The department emphasizes the power of 'visual communication'—the ability to present photographic works to others and engage in dialogue through those works. The curriculum is distinguished by its focus on expressive skills, photographic techniques, presentation abilities, and diverse approaches to communication, including the use of the internet and social media. This enables students to learn how to connect with people and society.
In addition to practical learning opportunities such as training camps, study trips, and group exhibitions, the program also offers online classes, allowing students to earn credits by attending campus two to three days per week.
