Leica Camera Unveils the Summilux-M f1.4/50mm ASPH. with a Minimum Focusing Distance of 45cm

Leica Camera has announced the renewal of its standard Leica M-mount lens, the Summilux-M f1.4/50mm ASPH. The lens will be available from April 22, 2023, through the Leica Online Store, Leica Boutiques, and authorized Leica dealers. Pricing: Black—¥671,000, Silver—¥693,000 (tax included).

The Summilux-M f1.4/50mm ASPH. is a 50mm standard lens for the Leica M series. While maintaining its renowned optical performance in a lightweight and compact body, it has been updated with the latest technology.
Incorporating the newly developed “double cam cut” mechanism, the minimum focusing distance has been reduced from 70cm to 45cm. This allows for closer focusing during live view shooting.

The lens construction remains the same as the 2004 version—eight elements in five groups with one aspherical surface. However, the focus ring now features a greater rotational angle than previous models, enabling more precise focusing, especially at close distances.

The aperture diaphragm now features 11 blades, up from 9, resulting in a more circular aperture at settings other than wide open, which produces beautifully rounded bokeh. The lens hood adopts a retractable design that can be smoothly extended or retracted with a light twist.
