photo poster project | A First Exhibition, Beginning with Photography by 김찬호 | ISSUE #281

Held by cizucu in cities around the world, photo poster project is a photography poster exhibition that anyone can join simply by choosing a city and date.
The project we call ppp is more than just a photography exhibition. It is a community where everyone can share their stories with confidence, as well as an opportunity to connect with creators from around the world in person.

For this edition, we spoke with creator 김찬호, who participated in photo poster project.

Hello, I’m 김찬호. I run a commercial photography production company called Cinema Seoul, documenting performances, events, portraits, and weddings through photography and film.
When I travel outside of work, I turn my camera toward the people and landmarks I encounter, as well as fleeting moments that inspire me.

I am particularly drawn to contrasts in which a small subject is set against an expansive backdrop.
When a moment feels truly special, I sometimes choose to preserve it with my own eyes rather than press the shutter.

Just as I was thinking that I would like to exhibit my work, I happened to meet a member of the photo poster project team.
I had previously come across the name ppp on Instagram, and after hearing more about it and learning that an edition would be held in Seoul, I decided to participate.

I was drawn to its open format: beginners and professionals can exhibit in the same space, participants can connect with one another, and anyone who wishes can also take part in preparing the exhibition.

Although it was my first exhibition, the team was highly experienced, so I was able to settle in naturally without finding the process difficult.

There were many visitors in the exhibition space, and I was particularly impressed by how attentively they listened to each creator’s complete explanation of their work.

I was a little nervous during my presentation, but I enjoyed speaking about my photography in front of an audience.
Some visitors showed genuine interest and asked questions, making it a fascinating and unexpectedly enjoyable experience.

This is the work I selected for the exhibition.
For me, this exhibition also marked the beginning of my artistic practice. That is why I chose the work that holds the greatest significance for me.

It took ten years for me to make this photograph.
It is also a work I deeply want one particular person to see.

I exhibited it in the hope that the emotions I felt upon finally reaching that moment after ten years would reach that person—and that they would achieve the success they aspire to.

I would like to participate again.
