Read Your Photography turns its attention to the stories behind photographs—stories that cannot be discovered by looking alone. Alongside works gathered through cizucu’s photo poster project and social media, cizucu Magazine translates the circumstances in which each photograph was created and the moments unique to its maker into 12 languages, sharing them with audiences around the world.

Keeping a story close to your heart is one choice. Yet its emotions may quietly touch someone else and inspire a sense of wonder still unknown.

This edition features works by three photographers from around the world.
Let us take a gentle look into their singular stories.

A bond begins in an encounter that may last only a fleeting moment. A blessing is what quietly endures afterward.
The photograph was taken on the second day of the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage, a major procession in which Dajia Mazu travels through communities across the region. Along the route, I presented the people I met with “flowers of affinity.”

The flowers I gave that day were lisianthus, also known as “Mazu’s flower.” They are cherished as a symbol of everlasting love and blessings.

Our encounters may have lasted only ten or twenty minutes. Yet what remains most vivid is not how swiftly the flowers passed from hand to hand, but the warmth of the connection we shared in that place.

May these flowers gently accompany them on their journey and, together with the bonds formed that day, quietly watch over the days ahead.

This image may initially appear to portray a radiant bouquet, yet it quietly preserves the warmth of a fleeting moment in which lives crossed. Presented along the route of the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage, these “flowers of affinity” symbolize everlasting love and blessings. At the same time, they resemble a small prayer, carrying an encounter of only a few minutes into the future. The delicacy of the white lisianthus merges with the lights in the background, transforming the work from a record of flowers being given into a photograph of connection remembered.

Perhaps fireworks become a story held within the memories of two people in love.
However brilliant the fleeting light we watch together may be, it could surely never rival your own radiance.
Even so, the sight of you watching the fireworks beside me became, within my heart, the very embodiment of “the moment you came into bloom.”

I have traveled to many countries and witnessed more beautiful landscapes than I could ever count.
I have met countless people and photographed the rhythms of time flowing through each place, along with the stories that live there.
Yet what I wanted to preserve in this photograph was not merely the beauty of the fireworks, but the irreplaceable time I spent with you as you looked up into their light.

cizucu Editorial Team
Although the fireworks unfolding across the night sky immediately command our attention, what this photograph truly preserves is the quiet passage of time shared by the two figures gazing upward. Precisely because that dazzling instant will eventually disappear, the memory of standing side by side and witnessing the same view remains all the more deeply engraved in the heart. This work captures not only the fireworks but also the gentle warmth of an irreplaceable night spent with someone dear.

In this moment, it felt as though time itself were slowly coming undone.
The afterglow of sunset bathed the water in gold, its shimmer quietly bridging the space between reality and dreams.

The girl stood there in silence, gazing into the distance.
Her eyes held a childlike purity and curiosity, along with a tender longing for a world she had yet to encounter.

As I look at this photograph, my imagination naturally begins to unfold.
What might she be thinking at this moment?
Is her mind drawn toward the distant city, or is she simply taking in the stillness of dusk exactly as it is?

Hong Kong is a city where speed and stillness, clamor and solitude, exist side by side.
This photograph seems to capture a solitary, contemplative gaze born in the space between those opposing atmospheres.

cizucu Editorial Team
Standing quietly against the light of dusk, the girl embodies a depth of time that extends beyond the merely picturesque. The golden water and the contours of the city seem to reflect both a longing for an unseen world and emotions not yet shaped into words. Although the work makes no emphatic declaration, it invites us to imagine the feelings that lie beyond her gaze. This photograph sensitively distills a quiet moment in Hong Kong in which a young girl turns her thoughts toward the future.

We want to look beyond what visual appearance alone can convey. Read Your Photography is an editorial series that attends to the thoughts and emotions within photographs, inviting us to receive each work as a story.

A photograph captures only a fleeting instant. Yet behind it lies time that has undeniably continued to flow, along with feelings that were never put into words.

We invite you to experience each photograph as you would read a story and turn the pages of a book.
