photo poster project | The moment photos become memories by Jodi | ISSUE #267

cizucu hosts the photo poster project in cities around the world.
By simply choosing a city and date, creators can join a physical photo poster exhibition—and meet fellow creatives in real life.

In this issue, we spoke with Jodi, who participated in the photo poster project, about the moment her photographs moved beyond the screen, took shape as posters, and became memories shared with a community.

Could you introduce yourself?

Hello I'm Jodi! I've been photographing since 2014, when I received my first DSLR. I started with capturing my family and daily observations.

Over time, I realized I gravitated towards street photography for the sheer love of raw everyday moments.

Photography has not only made me appreciate what I have, but also taught me: just as a photograph can be captured in many ways, a situation can hold multiple truths; most importantly, make sure each shutter you take does right by you.

Why did you decide to participate?

It started with me stumbling upon Don’s Instagram post about his ppp exhibition. It sparked my interest to discover more about the event.

When I visited the March ppp, I was deeply touched by the welcoming and heartwarming space cizucu has built. It allowed individuals of different photography proficiencies to gather and share their photos and stories.

Through the event, I got to know Isaac and Arthur, who are both exhibitors of March ppp. They encouraged me to join and even gave me tips for the presentation segment. I’m truly grateful to them for that.

I did hesitate at first, honestly — I wasn't sure my work was compelling enough for an exhibit. But I decided to take it as a personal challenge, a new experience, and an opportunity to grow. So here I am!

How was your experience participating in photo poster project?

After participating in the exhibition, I felt like I had reached a new milestone in my photography journey.

I had always kept my photographs digitally. Film strips were the only tangible part of my images. Seeing my photograph take shape as a poster, and holding it in my hands, felt like holding a piece of the past, truly gratifying.

Previously, I had occasionally shared my photos on Instagram as a form of digital journal. However, presenting my photograph in front of everyone and having in-person conversations over photography gave me a sense of joy and fulfillment that I could never get from posting on a phone.

The cizucu team was also incredibly supportive and friendly, which made the presentation much less stressful and helped put us at ease. Through ppp, I also made new friends from different backgrounds, with the same interest in photography.

Why did you choose this photograph?

I chose this photograph as a response to the rapid pace of change, shifting norms, and global unpredictability we are navigating today.

In the photo, the elderly fruit seller is almost submerged by the fruits she sells, while she gazes at the hanging light — as though searching for a glimpse of hope. This speaks to the overwhelming news of technological shifts and geopolitical tensions we encounter currently, as we move through uncertain times while seeking clarity.

The elderly fruit seller also reminds me of Singapore's wet market culture — a tradition quietly fading as consumers shift toward modern grocery and dining options.

That makes me wonder: with change moving this fast, will what remains be fast-consuming, cookie-cutter representations? Will small businesses that care about craft, quality, purpose, and cultural heritage slowly become obsolete?

Do you have a message for those considering joining photo poster project?

Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned photographer, this space is for everyone who loves taking photographs.

Sharing your work and public speaking can feel nerve-wracking. But what awaits you after that minute of presenting is a sense of accomplishment that's uniquely yours, and a community of people ready to celebrate your perspective.
