The Canon EOS R3 is a full-frame mirrorless camera designed for professional use, offering exceptional durability and high-speed performance. Its stacked CMOS sensor and high-speed image processing deliver powerful autofocus and continuous shooting performance, particularly when photographing moving subjects.

Of all the models I have used over the years, the Canon EOS R3 stands out as a camera that allows me to focus entirely on photographing.

With its integrated vertical grip, it has a substantial presence in both weight and size. Including the battery, it weighs 1,015 g. Yet despite being a piece of equipment that exceeds 1 kg, its weight never feels like the defining impression once it is in my hands.

Instead, the moment I raise it to my eye, it settles effortlessly into a stable position, resting naturally in my hands as a tool purpose-built for making photographs.

The first quality I would highlight about the Canon EOS R3 is the precision of its autofocus.
It acquires subjects with remarkable speed, and once focus is locked, it tracks them seamlessly. Street photography often involves moving subjects such as pedestrians and cars, so the confidence to release the shutter without hesitation makes a significant difference.

Another quality I appreciate is the speed of its shutter response.
The immediacy of capturing a frame the instant I press the shutter feels completely natural, with no perceptible gap between my intention and the camera’s response. It makes decisive moments easier to capture, allowing the camera to feel like an extension of my body.

Of course, the newer Canon EOS R1 may now offer more advanced performance. Even so, I call the Canon EOS R3 my beloved camera because years of working with it have given me a sense of trust that specifications alone cannot express.

I used to worry about whether my subject was in focus or whether I would react in time to capture the decisive moment. Those concerns came first, demanding too much of my attention during the shooting process. As a result, I do not think I was looking closely enough at the scenes and atmospheres that should have been my true focus.

Since switching to the Canon EOS R3, my concerns about autofocus and responsiveness have receded, allowing me to concentrate on the act of observing what unfolds before me.

One of the things I value most in my photographic practice is “looking at shadows.”
When I walk through the city, I sometimes find myself drawn less to the people or buildings themselves than to the relationship between the light and shadow that takes shape around them.

The long shadows cast by low morning or evening light. The contrasts created by sunlight filtering through gaps between buildings. Whether or not we notice these shifts can profoundly change a photograph.

The Canon EOS R3 is a dependable companion for giving form to such moments before they disappear.
With fewer technical concerns during a shoot, I have gained the freedom to focus on what truly matters: light and shadow, and the movement of people. I have gained that freedom.

For me, the Canon EOS R3 is more than simply a high-performance camera. It is a treasured tool that has broadened my vision as a photographer.
