The photo poster project, known as ppp, is an exhibition of photo posters organized by cizucu and held in cities around the world—just choose your city and date to participate.
This project is more than just a photography exhibition. It is a community where everyone can safely share their stories, and a unique opportunity to connect with creators globally in real life.
This time, we spoke with Eric Xu, a creator who participated in the photo poster project.
Please introduce yourself!
I'm Eric Xu. Photography is a “hobby” for me, but also an important time to recalibrate my daily life. Amid the monotony of daily commutes and work, only weight training and photography have made me feel like I’m reclaiming my own life.
Before I started shooting, I barely paid attention to my surroundings and lived somewhat mechanically. But now, I find myself noticing things I used to overlook, and I’m increasingly moved by unexpected moments. This change itself gives me a sense of personal growth, and I look forward to what lies ahead.
What inspired you to participate?
I joined about three months after I started photography. The fact that even beginners could exhibit their work was a huge boost to my confidence.
Moreover, having time not only to exhibit but also to discuss our works allowed me to learn from other creators’ perspectives, making the experience much richer than if I had kept my thoughts to myself.
How was your experience participating?
I genuinely enjoyed it. While I usually spend most of my photography time alone, at the exhibition space, everyone shared in words what they felt standing in that place and what they were thinking when they pressed the shutter. Being able to express myself in that way felt truly precious.
Also, the experience of receiving direct praise for my work at the gallery was a completely different sense of accomplishment compared to online comments.
The staff on the day not only guided participants but also created a welcoming atmosphere and ensured everything ran smoothly. I’m truly grateful for the environment they provided, as well as the high quality of the posters.
This was my first photography exhibition, but I’m sure it won’t be my last.
Why did you choose that particular photograph?
I chose this photograph because I wanted viewers to feel that it was “fun” and “interesting,” and I also wanted more people to know about this adorable cat.
Even if, years from now, this cat is no longer around, I’d be delighted if someone, somewhere, suddenly remembers, “I once saw a photo of a cat drinking water in the ruins of Minyu.” What I want to capture are memorable photographs that linger in someone’s mind long after time has passed.
...And of course, a big reason is simply that this cat was absolutely adorable.
