And I gently whisper in your ear, 'That’s not important anymore.'

Then you slowly turn and smile at me with kindness.

Closed eyelids and softly touching fingertips—unspoken inner emotions quietly seep through. Each strand of swaying hair, the gentle play of light and shadow, delicately captures the subtle fluctuations deep within the heart. A moment of introspection, slightly distanced from the outside world. In that stillness, a tangible warmth and presence can be felt in this photograph.

The summer of 2018—about eight years ago.

I loved photography, but I was always shooting aimlessly, troubled by the vague question of 'How should I show my photographs to others?'

One humid August day, I thought I’d try to capture the sunset, but failed. Since the bus stop was on a bridge, I found myself walking across Mapo Bridge without much thought.

Because I had my earphones in, I walked a bit slower than usual that day. I noticed the 63 Building, and since it was just around sunset, I turned my head and, by a split second, pressed the shutter—capturing not only the scene but also a passing ferry, resulting in a truly beautiful landscape.

A couple of days later, I received notification from Getty Images Korea that I had passed their artist selection, along with a request to send my first 100 photographs.

For my artist registration, I chose this photograph as number one. It remained my phone’s wallpaper for a long time. Even now, whenever I cross Mapo Bridge, I recall that summer of 2018.

On days when things don’t go well, sometimes you encounter light during a casual walk. The buildings bathed in sunset, the water’s surface, and the small boat crossing between them come together in a scene that feels too serene to be mere coincidence. The moment you pressed the shutter in uncertainty became a personal origin. This photograph seems to capture not only the image, but also the time and emotions of that moment.

Love? Love! This photograph was inspired by 'Between the Sexes' by the photographer I most respect, Elliott Erwitt.

I am drawn to moments where human relationships are revealed. It is said that children begin to sense gender differences from an early age, and soon, they start to question the budding feelings that arise.

At first, it may seem like just friendship.
But the desire to be together, to play around, the way your heart flutters at someone’s smile—surely, that is genuine love.

The children in the photograph spent what seemed like an eternity together, even quietly leaning on each other during moments of rest.

If this subtle current of emotion is not love, then what is it?

I hope that, through this photograph captured with a warm gaze, you too—myself included—can experience that ticklish feeling of love.
