Photographers and creators share their stories about cameras and the narratives behind them. The notion of a “beloved camera” reflects each individual’s values and shooting style. In this feature, we spotlight masa, a devoted user of the Nikon Z6 III.
What is it that compels masa to continue using the Nikon Z6 III as a true companion, transcending numbers and comparisons? We delve into the tactile qualities that cannot be captured by specs alone, and the straightforward commitment to the act of photographing. This article unpacks how masa navigates between performance and attachment, and how he engages with this camera.
Nikon Z6 III | Key Information
The Nikon Z6 III is a full-frame mirrorless camera equipped with a back-illuminated CMOS sensor of approximately 24.5 megapixels. With outstanding autofocus performance, high-speed continuous shooting up to 14 frames per second, and a high-resolution EVF, it is an all-rounder that enjoys strong support from advanced amateurs to professionals alike.
Perspectives Gained Through Comparison
When the Canon R6 Mark III was announced, I’ll admit my heart wavered. The same was true when the SONY α7V was released. My go-to camera is the Nikon Z6 III, which came out in 2024, but the two aforementioned models released in 2025 offered superior still image performance in the same price range.

The Nikon Z6 III does have some limitations in burst shooting. For high frame rate capture above 30 fps and pre-capture, RAW recording is not available.

Discovering My Own Core
When it comes to autofocus performance, there are moments when I notice a slight difference in eye-tracking precision compared to SONY or Canon models.
That said, the autofocus of the Nikon Z6 III is by no means lacking; for everyday shooting, its capabilities are more than sufficient.

Even so, experiencing other cameras made me realize just how much is possible, and I found myself naturally drawn to them. It was through these comparisons that I was prompted to reconsider what I truly seek in a camera.
A Sense of Comfort Beyond Performance
Despite all this, I still want to keep using the Nikon Z6 III. The reason is the unique sense of comfort it provides, which cannot be explained by performance alone.
For example, the immersive experience when looking through the EVF. There’s none of the feeling of looking at a small display typical of mirrorless cameras, allowing me to fully focus on shooting.

Or the shutter response and robust body—this is a camera that makes you want to take it out and shoot in all kinds of situations.
Even if the specs lag slightly behind rival models, the Nikon Z6 III remains my cherished companion. It’s a camera that offers an appeal beyond what can be measured by performance alone.
