Introduction
'Daydream' is a global online photography contest organized by cizucu, open to any creator registered on cizucu. Outstanding works are curated from the submissions, aiming to discover new talent as a platform and to support the community as a whole.
This edition’s theme was ‘The Boundary Between Dreams and Reality’.
Daydreaming is that state when, even though you are awake, your mind drifts into another world—whether you’re zoning out on the train, losing focus during a long meeting, or feeling overwhelmed by tasks and wanting to escape.
We invited submissions that captured these surreal, imaginary scenes and atmospheres that emerge in everyday life—photographs that reveal another world seeping from within. In other words, images evocative of a true daydream.
Now, let us introduce the submitted works and the awarded photographs.

The boat should be there, yet its distance is immeasurable. Its presence floats, surrendering its contours to the water and air. The closer you try to get, the further it drifts; the more you try to discern it, the more it blurs. This ambiguity even destabilizes your own sense of position. What enters your field of vision is surely reality, yet your senses lag behind. It felt like witnessing the moment when the world becomes a shade thinner.

Reality remains only at the center. The surroundings are stretched by color and light, losing all sense of direction, yet there alone is a sense of solidity. Are you peering in, or being drawn in? The answer halts midway. Consciousness converges on a single point, and the peripheral world peels away. It felt as if only your gaze moves forward, leaving your bodily senses behind.

The image never settles; only the outline remains. The ground beneath your feet is unanchored, and particles of light fill the space. In this place, it’s impossible to tell whether something is happening or merely lingering. There’s a sense of dissonance, as if you’ve wandered into the middle of a recollection, that continues deep within the frame.

Before the image itself, the voices of children reach you. The sounds of laughter, footsteps, and overlapping echoes flash back, with light and form catching up only afterward. The reversal of sequence, so common in memory, is rendered directly on the screen. Even as you look, the sensation of listening lingers more strongly.

The image of a current scraping across the surface of the body sweeps you up with no escape. Both order and speed are dictated by the demands of society, leaving no room to pause. Yet, deep within the vortex, a dazzling light can be seen. It felt as though something remains beyond the point of abrasion, something not entirely lost to darkness.
In Closing
We hope you enjoyed this feature.
Each work does not simply depict reality, but gently reveals another layer—one of sensation, memory, and the fluctuations of consciousness that we often overlook. The boundary between dreams and reality lies right beside our everyday lives. These photographs seem to grant us the time to pause in that ambiguous space.
We look forward to seeing you again at the next edition.
