On September 19, 2025, the iPhone 17 series was unveiled. Among them, the Pro / Pro Max models have undergone significant hardware upgrades, particularly in camera performance. All lenses now feature 48MP sensors, achieving 4× optical zoom equivalent to 100mm and high-resolution 8× zoom equivalent to 200mm. It is anticipated to be a “practical camera” that transcends the boundaries of smartphones.

Three Key Hardware Improvements
The new “iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max” unifies all rear lenses (main / ultra-wide / telephoto) with 48MP sensors. Notably, the telephoto lens offers 4× optical zoom equivalent to 100mm and “optical-quality” 8× zoom equivalent to 200mm through cropping. Additionally, all lenses feature improved stabilization and color correction, making them more effective for low-light and motion photography.

Expanding Creative Possibilities with Video and Front Camera Features
Video capabilities have also seen a major upgrade. The device supports ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and even Genlock, along with 4K/120fps recording and simultaneous front-and-rear shooting. The front camera, now 18MP and Center Stage-enabled, automatically adjusts framing based on the subject, making it a powerful tool for vlogging and live streaming.

Tips and Considerations for Shooting
The 8× zoom performs best in well-lit environments, as noise can become noticeable in low light, requiring careful adjustments. When using ProRes RAW or high-frame-rate recording, be mindful of file sizes and potential overheating. The 100mm telephoto lens is ideal for portraits and product photography, while the 8× zoom excels in capturing distant scenes. For post-processing, consider using Log or RAW formats, and switch to HEIF for more general use.
