These features rely on fast sensor readout and processing speeds, and simply increasing the number of pixels would raise the processing load, potentially degrading performance. As a result, the company has determined that it needs to enhance resolution through alternative means rather than increasing sensor resolution.
Competitor Examples and the Maturity of AI Technology
In 2024, Canon introduced AI upscaling technology in its EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1 models, but the implementation did not gain significant market support. OM SYSTEM is analyzing these results while developing a direction to integrate AI resolution enhancement technology, proven in image editing software like Photoshop and DxO, directly into its cameras.
This approach offers the advantage of obtaining high-resolution images without relying on external software, making it a highly practical solution for creators.
AI Upscaling as a Strategic Choice
To maintain its presence in genres like wildlife and landscape photography, where high resolution is essential, OM SYSTEM must achieve high-definition image output in some form. However, fundamentally changing the existing sensor configuration and processing design is not an easy task.
