Stories of creators who love photography and their cameras. A "beloved camera" often reflects one's worldview and values. In this installment, we feature Remm, who uses the Nikon F3.

Feeling exhausted by the fast-paced consumption of digital photos on social media, she turned to film cameras as a way to capture what truly matters. Her choice reflects modern struggles and a renewed appreciation for the act of photography.

Nikon F3: Basic Information

A professional-grade 35mm SLR camera that uses film. It features a robust titanium body and highly reliable shutter durability. With an electronically controlled shutter capable of speeds up to 1/2000 seconds and aperture-priority auto mode, it offers great versatility. The camera also supports motor drives and interchangeable viewfinders, making it highly expandable.

A New Perspective on Photography

I started photography in 2021 and had always shot digitally. However, I began to feel drained by the rapid consumption of photos on social media.

Amid this, I started asking myself, "What do I really want to preserve?"

Rather than taking many photos, I wanted to cherish each one. That realization led me to start using a film camera.

The Encounter at Kitamura Camera Store, Shinjuku

My first film camera was the Nikon F3, which I found in May 2024 at Kitamura Camera Store in Shinjuku.

I specifically looked for an SLR because I wanted a camera capable of capturing "what truly matters" with precision. A friend's recommendation also helped me decide on this camera.

The Confidence of Aperture-Priority AE

My biggest concern with film was "Will I get the exposure right?"
But the F3's aperture-priority AE function eased my worries. By setting the aperture myself, the camera automatically adjusts the shutter speed.

This feature gave me the confidence to overcome my initial hesitation about film being "too difficult."
It allowed me to focus on shooting, making it a reliable ally for beginners.

Capturing Gentle Light in Sub-Zero Temperatures

In February 2025, I took the F3 to photograph Hokkaido's winter.
Even in the harsh sub-zero environment, the F3 worked flawlessly, capturing the intricate details of ice crystals and individual strands of hair with remarkable precision.

Some film rolls were accidentally exposed, but even those became "artistic" and turned into some of my favorite shots.

Above all, the F3 beautifully captured the "gentle light" amidst the harsh cold.

Together, Moving Forward

When I feel the urge to "preserve this moment," I press the shutter. Each shot becomes a cherished memory etched in my heart.
Moving forward, I want to continue capturing precious moments with the Nikon F3.
