CONTAX S2B

Film Camera / cy-mount / S2

565g

The CONTAX S2b is a distinctive film SLR camera that deliberately adopted a fully manual mechanical shutter in the 1990s, as electronics were becoming increasingly prevalent. The battery is needed only for the light meter, making it suitable for photography enthusiasts seeking simple, thoughtful shooting and users who enjoy a mechanical operating feel. It features a robust titanium body and highly reliable mechanism, and is intended for those who want to fully appreciate the rendering of Carl Zeiss lenses.

How to use · The CONTAX S2b is a fully manual camera in which every photographic operation—including loading film, setting the aperture and shutter speed, focusing, advancing the film, and rewinding—is performed by hand. It has a built-in light meter, but the user must set the shutter speed and aperture themselves.

Watchouts · The CONTAX S2b is a mechanical camera and is considered relatively unlikely to malfunction, although mirror misalignment has been reported. However, because it is mechanical, it can be repaired. Its controls are simple, but people with large hands may find it a little cramped. The S2b uses center-weighted metering and is an improved version created in response to feedback that the spot metering on its predecessor, the S2, was difficult for beginners.
