言葉を超えて / Beyond Words 私の祖母は、日本統治時代の台湾で生まれ育ちました。日本語教育を受けていた彼女にとって、日本語はとても身近な存在でした。私は日本語が話せないため、共通する言語で深く語り合うことができないまま、祖母は、天国へ旅立って行きました。 一昨年、日本で、通りすがりにこの肉まんを売るおばあちゃんに出会いました。彼女が親切に日本語で話しかけてくれた時、私はふと祖母のことを思い出しました。祖母も、いつも言葉の通じない私を、ただニコニコと微笑んで見守ってくれました。私たちは通じ合える言語を持っていなかったけれど、あの笑顔から、言葉を超えて、温かい愛情を貰っていたのだなと、この写真を見るたびに思います 撮影をご快諾くださった彼女と、その温かい笑顔とともに。 (English Translation) My grandmother was born and raised in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial era. Having received a Japanese education, the language was very familiar to her. However, since I cannot speak Japanese, we were never able to have deep conversations before she passed away. Two years ago, I met this woman selling steamed buns in Japan. When she spoke kindly to me in Japanese, I was reminded of my grandmother. She always watched over me with a smile, even though we couldn't speak the same language. Every time I look at this photo, I realize that even without words, her love was conveyed through her smile.
